WHY?
Sometimes you just gotta kick yourself out of the nest. And in this case, it’s an idea I’ve been manifesting in my head for last few years. I am a designer and I've spent last 13 years in the United States (Los Angeles, San Francisco, currently New York) working with some of the best people in the industry on award winning projects. However, with my love for global culture, I’ve had a deep desire to fulfill my curiosity and expand my mind by living and working in different parts of the world. I considered moving to Singapore, India, Argentina and Spain, but it seemed daunting to do it alone. I also had a hard time deciding if I should move short term or long term. So, when my friends Gaurabh and Anuja told me about Remote Year a couple of months ago, I got MADLY ecstatic! I had been waiting for this and it couldn’t have come at a better time in my life.
WHAT I'LL WORK ON
I hope to work on short-term product design/UX projects with LOCAL start-ups, design studios or individuals. I might teach in design schools, give talks or work on anything new, different and fun that comes my way. If you have a project, surprise me! Besides that, I have a personal travel project that I hope to get off the ground.
LEAVING NEW YORK MAY 31
I cannot put it in sequence as I am feeling excited, liberated and scared at the same time. Excited because I will travel to 12 different countries in one year - the blue Adriatic Sea, markets of Istanbul, temples of Kyoto, tango in Argentina and much more. Liberated because I will leave the confines of an office and work on projects I want to. Scared coz’ there will be times I will get lonely or sick or stuck in visa lines at the consulates.
But most importantly, I am looking forward to surprise myself at the end of these 12 months!!
Thank you Chloe, Richard, Kaz for your enthusiastic support and letting me go for a year. That’s why I love R/GA!
Family, friends and village, I hope to see you in at least one city :-)
